MY JOURNEY OF GIVING

Week 12: Stranger Danger

Earlier in the week, I had a couple stop my wife and me on the street and ask for directions. They had a nice large tourist map and some sort of red dot on the map which I believe was their destination. We turned them 180 degrees to the right (or maybe to the left), pointed, gestured, and then watched them stroll happily down the street.

At the same time we had friends in town and were walking with them. After saying goodbye to them at their hotel we then started walking home. A few blocks away from the house, we saw the same couple still walking with that nice large map. Thinking back to earlier, it was obvious to me they were a couple blocks past their destination.

They didn't see us and we could have kept on walking. Instead I approached them and offered them some directions.  Initially, they were a bit surprised as I don't believe they understood they had gone too far. Once we established they were lost again, we turned them 180 degrees (to the left this time), counted two blocks for them and pointed at the last turn they had to make.

Now, I suppose that doesn't sound like much. But for me personally, I don't really like to approach strangers for something I need let alone bother them for something I think they need. But through this blog and and other things I keep on reading, I've learned to just go for it. What's the worst that could happen? Now, who knows if they every made it to their final destination, but i didn't see them wondering around the next day so I choose to believe everything worked out just fine.
